Mediacorp 1-Net unites Singaporeans worldwide
1-Net Singapore as the Official NDP ’05 Webcast Provider
Singapore, 4 Aug 2005
Singaporeans all over the world can join their hearts and stay united when they watch a webcast of the National Day Parade (NDP) 2005 “live” on 9 August 2005 from 5.35 pm Singapore time (GMT+8hours) through the NDP website at www.ndp.org.sg. The webcast will be available in broadband and narrowband formats in the four national languages – English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.
Mr Mock Pak Lum, Chief Executive Officer of 1-Net, says, “The National Day Parade is the celebration that every Singaporean is proud of. It’s when the spirit of patriotism is aroused in all of us. As a Singapore company and the official webcaster of the NDP2005, 1-Net is honoured to be able to connect Singaporeans all over the world by webcasting through NETtv, delivered over a full-scale, robust video streaming infrastructure. As long as they have a good internet connection, they will be able to watch NDP 2005 “live” wherever they are.”
Dance and Reach Out for the Skies
Apart from the “live” webcast, visitors to the website can also access the resource rich Video-On-Demand (VOD) page which houses this year’s National Day theme song “Reach Out for the Skies” sung by Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah and Mediacorp artiste Rui En, and the specially choreographed dance steps for the theme song. Visitors to the NDP VOD page can view and download both the song and dance steps, so that they may sing and dance to the music of “Reach Out for the Skies” every time it comes on TV or, better still, at the Padang on National Day.
The VOD page is also packed with special features showcasing the old Singapore life such as “Sight and Sounds of Singapore of Yesteryears”, “A Glimpse of Malay Life”, “Chinatown 1955”, “Fishing in 1950s”, “How the Children Played”, “Indian Festivals”, “Life in Kelongs” and “Life on a farm”.
MAJ Alan Teo, Chairman of the NDP Website and Feedback Committee, says, “With its rich experience in “live” webcasting NDPs since 2001, 1-Net has continually demonstrated its webcasting capabilities and has been improving its high quality delivery every year. We are happy to have such a strong technology partner in our NDP 2005. 1-Net’s expertise and reputation in this area made it the natural choice partner.”
