1-Net Opens Southeast Asia’s First Tier III Constructed Facility

Singapore, 30 May 2016

1-Net Singapore today officially opened 1-Net North Data Center, the first commercial data center in Southeast Asia with Tier III Constructed Facility certified by the Uptime Institute. 1-Net North Data Center has also attained the BCA-IDA Green Mark Award for New Data Centers (Gold Plus) which demonstrates our effort to be to be green and sustainable.

The opening of 1-Net North is a timely solution to meet the needs of an increasingly digitized regional economy and Singapore’s vision to become a Smart Nation. It responds to meet increasing demand from financial institutions as well as emerging technology and network content companies as they look to outsource data storage to data centers and meet the security risk compliance on their IT infrastructure.

The data center adopts both the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Technology Risk Management guidelines on Threat and Vulnerability Risk Assessment (TVRA) and Guidelines for Enhancing Building Security in Singapore (GEBSS) from Ministry of Home Affairs. The data center is designed for concurrent maintainability with no single point of failure; all mission-critical systems within the data center are equipped to handle concurrent repair, maintenance and replacement without disrupting to essential business operations.

Mr Wong Ka Vin, Managing Director of 1-Net Singapore said, “As businesses continue to drive towards growth, companies now have to respond to an unpredictable economic climate, meeting escalating levels of regulation and compliance, technological advances and ever greater complexity and volume of data. The opening of 1-Net North is opportune, with the formation of the Committee for Future Economy late last year, and as more companies in Singapore implement digital transformation at the workplace [1]. 1-Net North Data Center provides flexibility and scalability for companies, without compromising on security and reliability in their IT infrastructure.”

Ms Thien Kwee Eng, Assistant Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board said, “Data centers are key infrastructure that enables both local and international companies to build digital capabilities and scale critical digital services in a cost-effective and efficient manner from Singapore. The launch of 1-Net North Data Center will support Singapore’s Smart Nation vision and boost Singapore’s position as the region’s leading connectivity and data management hub.”

Today, network connectivity is a significant part of a data center ecosystem. Last year, 1-Net has introduced a “Data Center Corridor” initiative which interconnected 16 key data centers in Singapore. By end of this year, 26 data centers are expected to be interconnected in Singapore and in the region. This initiative enables low latency direct access to data centers at a more competitively price to serve customers such as cloud providers, software defined network (SDN) providers and financial institutions.
